He was later appointed as a Junior Research Fellow by the German Research Council (DFG, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). From 2009 to 2019, he worked at HP Medizintechnik GmbH, Oberschleiβheim, Germany, on a project developing and evaluating an automated platform for real-time monitoring of cell-based assays.
Since 2019, he has held the role of Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Assay Development at INCYTOИ® GmbH, Planegg, Germany, where he conducts his experiments using CYRIS® FLOX, the multisensor cell analysis platforms developed by the company.
Opportunities and limits of
label-free measuring techniques

Marker-free measuring techniques are an ideal means of investigating parameters of living cells in biology without influencing them. The number and quality of available sensors and parameters is constantly increasing. The determined values can usually be digitized and are therefore accessible to automated measurement systems. These are all great advantages of this measurement technology.
However, there are also some drawbacks here that are worthy of mention. Applied markers often allow a higher accuracy of the measured parameter. Localization and sensitivity can also often be greatly increased by a marker (fluorescence imaging). In addition, the costs must be kept in mind.
Nevertheless, marker-free measuring techniques are now indispensable in research. We would like to discuss the opportunities and limits of this technology with you, including how we use it and the experience we have gained with it.
